About This Book

The first issue of Gobo Foto Book turns its gaze toward the radical and poetic universe of Mario Giacomelli, where photography is no longer a simple recording of reality, but an intense confrontation with it. In Giacomelli’s work, the image becomes an ontological scream, a search for what lies beneath the visible surface.

Through extreme contrast, deliberate distortion, and the alchemical process of the darkroom, Giacomelli transforms landscape and human figure into a metaphysical language. His photographs move beyond the decisive moment and toward lived experience, where every black void and luminous white surface asks a deeper question about solitude, aging, memory, and grace.

This book is a meditation on the nature of the image itself: not as document alone, but as expression, struggle, and revelation. Between the stark streets of Scanno and the lyrical movement of his subjects, we encounter a photographer who does not merely see, but insists on gazing until reality yields its hidden soul.
